Good Intentions, Contemptible Actions – Edwin’s Humble and Courageous Word
“Honey, how have I treated you with contempt?” This question opened a humble and courageous conversation that exposed contemptible actions born of good intentions.
In Wednesday’s prayer meeting Edwin Colon said that our invitation for him to speak resembled being the recipient of this question.
Would you please share with us how we have treated you with contempt?
Edwin responded with a humble yet courageous word to us his sisters and brothers. He kindly and carefully exposed how the good intentions of majority culture churches have done damage to churches on the margins.
What a privilege to sit under his tender ministry of the Word!
His reflection on Psalm 19:12–13 challenged our assumptions and showed us the shadow side of our good intentions.
It was incredibly powerful.
We recorded our prayer meeting so you can listen to it if you missed it—or rewatch it if you’d like.

This Week’s Shared Resource
Last week we all listened to Charlie Dates’ exposition of John 17 which he applied to the separation between black and white churches in America.
This week I invite you to listen to an episode of a powerful podcast.
The Church Politics podcast features Jason Giboney and Chris Butler of the AND Campaign.
Recently they discussed the riot at the Capitol on January 6 in an episode entitled “The Insurrection and the Church.”
It is powerful. It is prophetic.
And parts of it will probably upset you, whether you are on the political right or the political left.
Listen to it here this weekend, and share your thoughts and impressions in our Facebook group.
Next Week’s Guest Speaker
I’m thrilled to announce that Dennae Pierre will be our guest speaker for Wednesday’s prayer meeting.
Dennae is executive director of The Surge Network, a movement of local churches partnered together to put Jesus on display in Arizona.
She is also the author of the newly-released Healing Prayers and Meditations to Resist a Violent World: For Peoples Weary of Injustice.
Dennae will lead us in a time of lament and looking to Jesus on Wednesday at noon ET.
